Before the lyrics

Before a single line was written, we talked about what the song should be about. This is that conversation. The lyrics stay under wraps until the song is out.

“You're a very clever machine. Give me ideas that could make it go viral: look for the words and topics trending right now.”

“It needs a human touch. Something like: I'll do the dishes too.”

“And a phrase or a theme that keeps coming back. Like doomscrolling. AGI killed the humans. Or the cables.”

“I want the dial-up modem sound in the song.”

“Start like the opera scene in The Fifth Element. From behind she looks human… and when the shot changes, she's a robot wearing a human mask.”

“Does it have the pim-pam-pum, like my other songs? It needs more. Something about AGI. The echo chamber. The robots came and…”

“Nothing can stop AGI… well, actually, one thing can: cutting the internet cables under the sea.”

“Let's mention anabology. And Elon.”

“And a nod to a pop star.”

“Callas, no.”

“It has to say doomscroll.”

Two directions. I picked one.

They called it slop

The history of the insult, told like a documentary: dates, sources, a cold voice.

I am the slopMY PICK

The diva speaks. She knows a machine made her, and she's proud of it. A biography in the first person.

The music prompts for Suno

First try: one prompt for everything, opera first. Suno sang the whole song, slow. So we split it in two — the opera and the song, made separately — and joined them with a dial-up modem. Style only; the lyrics stay secret.

The operaSTYLE OF MUSIC
Solo operatic soprano, bel canto aria like a grand opera mad scene, a cappella over slow lush strings and harp, grand opera house reverb, no drums, no beat; starts slow, solemn and tragic, then accelerates into frantic virtuosic coloratura with staccato runs and stratospheric high notes, strings growing tense and dissonant; ends on one long piercing high note that cracks
EXCLUDE STYLES
drums, beat, electronic, pop, male vocals, choir, rap
The songSTYLE OF MUSIC
Dark electro punk, electroclash, EBM, industrial techno, fast and relentless, 132 BPM 4/4, hard beat from the very first second; raw aggressive mix, distorted drums, overdriven analog kick, distorted acid bassline, harsh detuned synth stabs; cold seductive deadpan female spoken verses, rapid-fire and rhythmic, close dry vocals, faintly synthetic, gang-shouted echoes answering her lines; choruses half-sung, half-shouted, sneering punk attitude, punchy gang call-and-response chant; stacked chanted gang vocals in the drop; frequent hard stops and cuts to silence, glitch stutters, tape stops; dial-up modem screeches and data glitches as rhythmic sound design; dramatic violin stabs return in the bridge; dark minor key; key change up into a louder final chorus; music cuts for a whispered spoken outro, abrupt stop
EXCLUDE STYLES
pop, trance, gospel, happy, bright major key, supersaw, rap, lo-fi, male lead vocal, mumbled vocals, big room EDM, dubstep, ballad, slow tempo, sung verses, orchestral, opera, musical theatre

Two rules: nothing made up (every date and quote checked against a source), and real people only by name, never their faces.

What’s decided

Version 1.1 · the good one
▶3:23
  1. The song stays as it came out of Suno. No regenerating.
  2. It opens with a doomscroll through my two previous videos: “Good morning, class” → “Welcome to the future” → “Doomscroll! Doomscroll!”.
  3. An opera diva answers, singing “Dom-scroll!” — all the way to “…in buffering”.
  4. “Buffering”: the stream glitches, pixelates and freezes.
  5. Her voice alone: “Hi. I'm the slop. Sorry, Shakira. I'm the new diva.” — then “DIVA!” and the beat drops.
  6. Inside the song, only three sound jokes: a modem crying, a boomer on an old TV, a tape that stops.
  7. The story: she's washing the dishes at home, watching it all on a TV, scrolling in the air with her yellow rubber glove.

The story

The opera, watched from her kitchen

She’s washing the dishes at home, watching everything on a TV, and she scrolls in the air, from across the room, with her yellow rubber glove. The diva on the screen is a robot wearing a mask of her own face: her AI copy. The slop is her.

Acid, like cartoon slime. “Slop” is mud and pig food. New in her world, impossible to miss.

Chrome

A robot diva, metal shine. Elegant, but close to the white robots.

Bubblegum pink

A pop diva. Big contrast, but more Barbie than slop.

Other places we considered

Everything in her flat

The diva climbs out of the screen into her living room.

The clone switchboard

The diva is clone #001; the clones are the choir.

The city of screens

Every billboard in town shows the diva.

The plane

An opera in the aisle, for robot passengers.

The plan for the first 35 seconds

The first sketch, panel by panel, each on the exact second of the song. (Then I changed the iPad for a TV in her kitchen, scrolling in the air.)

Buffering = the signal dies, like an old TV

“I like this one. Let's make “buffering” a grey screen that lost connection, like an old TV. And remove that “SLOP!” you added.”
The opera stutters, static creeps in, a grey screen, silence — “Hi.”
Claude’s take: Without the modem: the dying TV explains itself.

““Sorry Shakira. I'm the new diva. SLOP DIVA.” Can it SHOUT “SLOP DIVA”? If not, just “DIVA”. Drop “your favorite slop diva”. And another option: that line through a phone filter, or a robot.”
Five intros: her own “slop DIVA!”; a crowd-shouted “SLOP!” built from her voice in four layers; just “DIVA!”; telephone; robot.

Draft B: a hand and a screen + a tighter voice

“Make a draft with the iPad and the hand. And: “Sorry Shakira”, faster “I'm the new diva”, right after “your favorite slop diva”. Much tighter. Remove that annoying background effect.”
A low-res video draft: a dark room, a screen, a hand scrolling; the camera falls into the screen; at “DIVA!” the frame flies off. Voice gaps cut to 0.12 s.

The opera cuts dead, BEEP, and her voice alone over a whisper of modem. Then “DIVA!” and the music.
Claude’s take: Much sharper.

The aria + splicing two takes

“Use the opera part “O doomscroll… link in bio”, mix the modem in. Take “Sorry Shakira, I'm the new diva” from the 3:30 take and jump into the other one where it shouts “DIVA”.”
Two takes of the same song spliced on the beat. The beat doesn't stumble.
